I’ve been longing to share this with everyone, I joined a group recently and one of the things I’ve been asked is what scares me. I don’t usually say it out loud because I fear it would offend most people. However I believe that whoever reads my story might relate to it and understand. This is a true story and not an imagination π. It’s one that you never heard before (an untold story).
That faithful day, myself and my sister were returning from an after school class. My parents were very keen to help us perform well in school. This was to help us learn in a more 1:1 environment focusing more on the subjects we struggled with at school.
I was in primary school and at that age, full of energy and liked everything playππ. Today’s play was having a race to determine the fastest runner.
On your knees, get set, Go! We started running. Not afraid of anything and filled with a free spirit. I was so eager to win. So, I was running as fast as my tiny legs could run until we heard a bark. It was a dog, this dog started to chase after us, however not in a friendly way. In Nigeria (which is were this happened) dogs are trained be friendly as well as guard dogs. This dog however was something else. As it was chasing after us, my sister ran into a nearby bush. However, yours truly kept on running with the believe that I could run fast enough to get home safe.
‘I almost did, feeling like the famous runnerπ’
Our house was along the street, and had a gate that needed to be opened with a key before I could be safe again. I ran to the gate, this dog ran past me and stopped as soon as it noticed I wasn’t in front of it anymore.
‘Moment of fear πππ’
It ran back towards me, my little panicking hands failed to unlock the gate.
At this point I was frightened as hell and I thought to my little self “this is the end of me”. I ran towards my neighbours supermarket which was opposite our house. This supermarket wasn’t always open, but was on this very day. I thank my lucky stars till this day for that. Luckily the owner of this dog was at the supermarket, therefore called his dog to order not knowing the terror it had caused.
Years later, I relocated to England and everytime I walk past a dog (normally walking at the very edge of the street π) the owner says, its a friendly dog and won’t hurt a fly. So I started feeling a little at ease but with caution, I love them from afar especially when they are dressed in their little outfits.
Little did I know that dogs don’t like me either π.
Somewhere in Stockport, on my way to work. I was running particularly late to work so, I chose to run through a field. A short-cut I hardly use if I am on time (the idea being to exercise my legs through walking).
This dog (a Spanish greyhound) ran towards me, I stopped. “Everyone says they are friendly” I thought to myself. So stopping would be good, I was also advised not to fear by a friend because they sense it. So I stayed calm, especially on seeing the owner of the dog running towards me (I’m usually too scared to stroke a dog expect the little puppies who definitely cause no harm). So I reach out to my phone, the only toy like item in my bag and held it out towards this dog but noπ±. He wasn’t having it, he was racing around me like an animal who’s found its prey.
Wasn’t listening to his owner. His owner said to me, ‘I’ve never seen him in this form’.
OMG! there is no where to hide I thought to myself.
The owner made every effort and grabbed his dog and once on his leash, I felt safe again.
However that has made me permanently scared of dogs so I will continue to admire from afar.
Thank you for spending your time with me.

That does sound scary. I don’t know what scares me the most, I think just situations where I am completely out of control x
